Description

The Italian designer Cristina Celestino has imagined a complete decorative universe for Maison Matisse, in which the Colette rattan sofa is a must-have of the collection.

Conceived as a real desire to play on the indoor-outdoor contrast, evoked in Henri Matisse's Intérieur aux aubergines (1911), the Colette sofa features a sober structure in natural rattan, whose rounded shapes give it an ultramodern look. The seats as for her are declined in several fabrics sometimes plain or with organic patterns.

The whole gives the rattan sofa a unique character that makes its strength, allowing it to evolve in a variety of settings, according to your desires.

Arts and materials

The rattan structure, with its graphic details and rounded shapes, has been handmade in Italy by one of the most renowned specialists in the field based in Brianza, a region recognized worldwide as the best in traditional furniture-making craftsmanship. Such a complex assembly and high quality can only be obtained through a unique expertise.

The seat cushions are upholstered in block colored and organically patterned fabrics that are woven on a jacquard loom using natural fibers. The Venetian artisan, who creates our jacquard fabrics and whose tradition dates back to the 18th century, ensures our pieces are of the highest possible quality.

Inspiration

With the rattan structure of the Colette sofa and the botanical motif found on the jacquard fabric, we discover the idea of an indoor environment while breathing the fresh air of the external landscape depicted on Henri Matisse's iconic piece, Intérieur aux Aubergines.

Cristina Celestino

For the permanent collection Intérieur aux aubergines, Maison Matisse was inspired by Henri Matisse's eponymous painting from 1911 and collaborated with the Italian designer Cristina Celestino. This choice seemed self-evident. The designer’s world is perfectly adapted to that of the artist’s painting in this particularly decorative canvas where the planes deeply superimpose each other.
