Description

Our Intérieur aux Aubergines collection would be incomplete without the addition the ultimate centerpiece in interior design: the coffee table.
The Bianca coffee table now features in this elegant selection of furniture, playing with shapes and materials and expressing the indoor/outdoor theme explored in Henri Matisse's work.

Like the painter's work, the Bianca table has multiple interpretations, is versatile and ever-changing. Its use cannot be confined to one single room like the lounge, as it could also make an elegant addition to an hallway or even as a nightstand in your bedroom.

Also available in a larger, oval shape that it can be paired with, the Bianca coffee table allows you to create colorful, charming and textured ensemble that will add warmth to your home decor

Arts and materials

The Bianca coffee table boasts a natural rattan structure that supports a solid block-colored ceramic top with a matt finish. This top is cast and demolded by hand in one of the oldest artisanal workshops in Italy, before being painted with a slip and fired several times to fix its color. The modern and rounded rattan structure is made by bending the rattan by hand using steam, following the traditional method.

Italian designer Cristina Celestino has chosen to play with contrasts, not only between indoor and outdoor spaces, but also between the empty and the full, geometry and soft organic shapes, suggestive of both contemporary concepts and the idea of comfort. Shapes and colors come together seamlessly in order to create a coffee table that will last a lifetime and can be handed down from one generation to the next.

Inspiration

The Bianca coffee table replicates the color palette used in H. Matisse's 1911 piece, Intérieur aux Aubergines, which inspired Italian designer Cristina Celestino to create this collection. Its rounded shape is inspired by the dressing table depicted on the painting.

Cristina Celestino

For the permanent collection Intérieur aux aubergines, Maison Matisse was inspired by Henri Matisse's eponymous painting from 1911 and collaborated with the Italian designer Cristina Celestino. This choice seemed self-evident. The designer’s world is perfectly adapted to that of the artist’s painting in this particularly decorative canvas where the planes deeply superimpose each other.
