Arts and materials

The Oceanographic vase was made by Bosa Trade, a ceramic studio founded in 1976 that lies between two hills in the Veneto region.

Combining time-honored techniques with a sense of experimentation, the studio is part of a long tradition of craftsmanship that attracted Jaime Hayon and Maison Matisse.

The vase is made from a white clay poured into large plaster molds and then carefully polished to eliminate any irregularities in the material.

Once glazed, the piece is decorated with the designer's drawings and then fired in a kiln 7 times at 930°C to achieve optimal quality and durability.

It takes nearly 15 hours of work and 18 hours of firing to create each of the three unique vases, including the Oceanographic vase.

Inspiration

The Oceanographic vase is the result of Jaime Hayon joining forces with Maison Matisse and is a tribute by Jaime Hayon to Henri Matisse's work.

The designs on the vase bring to mind the Mediterranean landscapes which inspired Henri Matisse and inspire the Spanish designer.

"The initial concept of the vases is based on fantastic elements: shapes, silhouettes and natural features that melt together and float in a sea of color."
