We rarely think about decorating the hallway, yet this generally straight transit point also deserves to be furnished like any other room in your home. Working in collaboration with designer Cristina Celestino, the Maison Matisse has revisited the hallway carpet. Cristina Celestino has taken this hallway space to extend the idea of a pathway, playing with color and geometric and organic patterns that are inspired by Henri Matisse's Intérieur aux Aubergines painting (1911).

SAVOIR-FAIRE
The organic and geometric patterns of this hallway carpet, as well as its subtle powder and brown color palette allow it to adapt easily to a variety of settings. Born from a creative collaboration with designer Cristina Celestino, the Paysage au soleil hallway carpet combines silk with Himalayan wool to obtain an exceptional quality texture. This hallway carpet is constructed entirely by hand in a family-run workshop in Nepal. Its powder, brown and sky blue colors would pair perfectly with the yellow Belle-épine wallpaper.

ART AND MATERIALS
Our hallway carpets are hand-knotted by Tibetan artisans. The Maison Matisse hallway carpets have 125,000 individual knots per meter squared, hand knotting is an extremely delicate and complex production technique that offers an exceptional quality to our carpets. The wool is sourced from sheep in the Tibetan Himalayas, and the silk we use is imported from China and sourced directly from silkworms.
Cristina Celestina drew her inspiration for this carpet's color palette from Henri Matisse's Intérieur aux Aubergines painting, perfectly developed by the "Master of color".

• The hallway carpet is available in 2 other color palettes: the sky blue/olive green Paysage au soleil hallway carpet and the sky blue/brown Paysage le soir hallway carpet. It is also available in a rectangular version
• Dimensions (cm): 320 x 90
• Materials: Himalayan wool and silk (30% SE)
• Handmade in Nepal

L'INSPIRATION
Cristina Celestino was inspired by one particular detail of the Intérieur aux Aubergines painting (1911): the open window looking out to the countryside, seen on the right hand side of the painting. This window reveals a landscape of superimposed color strips that are then reflected in Cristina Celestino's creation. This external view represents a painting within a painting, by which Henri Matisse connects the interior to the exterior. This theme is taken up by Cristina Celestino in her interpretation of the painting and in the Intérieur aux Aubergines interior design furniture and accessory collection.

The designer Cristina Celestino collaborated with Maison Matisse

Cristina Celestino

For the permanent collection Intérieur aux aubergines, Maison Matisse was inspired by Henri Matisse's eponymous painting from 1911 and collaborated with the Italian designer Cristina Celestino. This choice seemed self-evident. The designer’s world is perfectly adapted to that of the artist’s painting in this particularly decorative canvas where the planes deeply superimpose each other.
