Arts and materials

The wool blanket is reversible as it has been woven on a jacquard loom. This burgundy Merino wool blanket has been woven in one of the most innovative production facilities, a leader in Italian design that blends tradition with savoir-faire.

Our collection only contains high quality blankets made from exceptional materials with a unique feel: Merino wool. Known for its soft and fine texture, it requires a natural and very simple care.
The extra-fine Merino wool is highly resistant and can be kept for a long time. This material gives the Louise wool blanket a longer lifespan. Paying tribute to Matisse's work, the pieces in the collection draw their inspiration from the Intérieur aux Aubergines painting (1911) and aim to be appreciated in the long term: they are cherished, keep for a long time and can be passed down from generation to generation in order to avoid waste and overconsumption.

Inspiration

The color palette found on Henri Matisse's Intérieur aux Aubergines (1911) was the unifying idea for the Louise wool blankets designed by Cristina Celestino.  To design the wool blankets, Cristina Celestino took certain graphic elements found at the heart of Henri Matisse's work, for example the frame or the stitching. The Merino wool blanket is framed by flat patches of color that are superimposed onto one another to create a playful chromatic contrast while staying faithful to the tones used by the artist Henri Matisse. The edge is embellished with the characteristic festoon stitch in contrasting colors.

Cristina Celestino

For the permanent collection Intérieur aux aubergines, Maison Matisse was inspired by Henri Matisse's eponymous painting from 1911 and collaborated with the Italian designer Cristina Celestino. This choice seemed self-evident. The designer’s world is perfectly adapted to that of the artist’s painting in this particularly decorative canvas where the planes deeply superimpose each other.
