La Musique

La Musique

“The painter chooses his colour in the intensity and depth that suit him just as the musician chooses the tone and intensity of his instruments”
Inspired by the 1939 painting La Musique, the pieces in the collection capture its grandeur and iconic motifs. Feminine curves, patterns found in textiles, the silhouette of a guitar and the leaves of Monstera Deliciosa add a touch of flair to the earthenware pieces created by Marta Bakowski and the throws designed by Studio Maison Matisse; bold pieces to brighten up daily life.

Maison Matisse invited designer Marta Bakowski to create the first permanent collection. The young Franco-Polish designer drew from the palette of colours found in the painting La Musique (1939), brilliantly reinterpreting the iconic themes of Henri Matisse’s work. The earthenware pieces in the collection are entirely handmade by one of Italy’s oldest artisanal manufacturers.
The graphic and colourful throws designed by Studio Maison Matisse complete this sculptural ensemble.
Blending a harmony of colours with a sense of rhythm, Maison Matisse’s new series of objects offers its own unique take on this meeting of different disciplines.
Born in Paris in 1986, the Franco-Polish designer and colourist Marta Bakowski is a graduate of Central Saint Martins College and the Royal College of Art. Following her studies, she spent two years working with Hella Jongerius in Berlin. In 2013, she founded her own studio in Paris.
Specialising in the working of colour and different materials, she creates objects that are bold and expressive, whose production lies halfway between the industrial and the artisanal, guided by craftsmanship and dialogue with artisans.
Since 2015, she has collaborated with brands such as La Chance, Roche Bobois, Ligne Roset and Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, and has taken part in international projects recognizing the value of local cultures and craftsmanship. Since 2021, she has also been teaching design at the TALM School of Art and Design in Le Mans.

Maison Matisse has established its own design studio to bring to life everyday objects that remain true to the spirit of Henri Matisse’s works.
The Studio also collaborates with prestigious brands, supporting them in the conception of exceptional products, celebrating the creativity of Henri Matisse in new, previously unexplored fields.
It offers consultancy services to companies wishing to develop products inspired by Matisse without betraying his work. The studio team supports and enriches the creation of such products by lending its expertise regarding the artist and his work.
