Arts and materials

The same Italian family workshop is responsible for creating all our ceramic pieces designed by Marta Bakowski. Thanks to their ancestral know-how handed down from generation to generation, the artisans behind the Canon bottle have used their knowledge of ceramics to create unique, timeless pieces.

The Canon bottle is molded by hand to give it its full, curved shape. The decorative design was applied by hand using the "spolvero" technique, which enables the expert hands of the master decorator to trace the outlines before applying the paint.

The Canon bottle is bright and generous: its round shapes call for celebration and shared pleasure, and its lively color palette is inspired by Henri Matisse's painting La Musique. Her desire was to transmit the painter's love for music, a passion that never left him until it became an integral part of his work, an essential component of his panting experience, day after day, like a musician tirelessly repeating his score.

Inspiration

Inspired by Henri Matisse's "La Musique" painted in 1939, the Canon bottle uses pictorial features from the masterpiece. Its symbolic shape reflects the curves of the guitar in the painting.

The work was approached from the design point of view on three inseparable levels: the decoration and its color, the shape, and the choice of materials. These elements form the DNA of each object.

Marta Bakowski

Maison Matisse invited the young designer Marta Bakowski to create its first permanent collection inspired by the painting La Musique (1939). The Franco-Polish designer took the palette of colors and brilliantly reinterpreted the most representative themes of Henri Matisse's work, such as the philodendron leaf, the figure of the woman and music.
