The Fold linear wall lamp is the result of a collaboration between Italian designers Formafantasma, and Maison Matisse.

Part of the limited edition Fold collection, this lamp is both discreet and full of character, resulting from its captivating line and modern design.

Subtly placed in the corner of a room, or prominently displayed as a central element, the Fold linear lamp will enhance any interior. Its variable intensity makes it easy to change the atmosphere of the room in which it is placed, making the mood evolve throughout the day.

Arts and materials

The manufacturing of this lamp required the intervention of six different craftsmen, each bringing their own know-how, combining complexity and innovation.

The metal used for the structure of this piece was first cut using laser technology, very high level of precision.

After being cut and shaped to give life to the design imagined by Formafantasma, the metal is polished and cleaned several times by hand by an expert, to remove the last imperfections of the metal, before being protected by a thin layer of varnish.

The paint is then sprayed on, requiring up to 10 successive coats to bring out the color and achieve the desired effect. A final coat of varnish completes the rendering of the metal, whose unique shine offers spectacular depth effects.

Inspiration

In this linear wall light, the minimalism of the Formafantasma design duo finds its full expression in their interpretation of Henri Matisse's paper Cut-outs.

Drawing their inspiration from the painter's creative process, the duo studied the paper, the way it is cut and the way it is folded, to obtain a piece that is very fine, even though it is made of metal.

The metal is revealed here in a new light, offering a singular curve, as well as light and vibrant colors.
