Description

The Harmonie bottle is part of a series of tableware objects created by the Franco-Polish designer Marta Bakowski in collaboration with Maison Matisse.
Like all the pieces of the La Musique collection, the Harmonie bottle can be used in many different ways, and need not be limited to the role of a bottle.
As a decorative object to be placed as a touch of color in your interior, or a vase that can accommodate small floral compositions, it’s up to you to find the use that suits you best, according on your desires.

The La Musique collection includes three hand painted bottles with bright and cheerful colors: the Harmonie bottle, the Canon bottle and the Sol bottle. Whether standing alone, or accompanied by their peers or the rest of the collection, our bottles can create a joyful decorative universe.
All the tableware is suitable for food use.

Arts and materials

The Harmonie bottle was made in a family-owned Italian factory located in Tuscany whose ceramic tradition dates back to the early 1920s. The craftsmen who worked on this piece were keen to make the most of this exceptional know-how that has been passed down to them from generation to generation.

The decoration was hand-painted by a master decorator on a cast biscuit to give it its curved and generous shapes before being fired twice to permanently fix the colors on the matte enamel.

Bright colors and a matte finish are the hallmarks of this feat of craftsmanship that gives the Harmonie bottle its singular and timeless character.

Inspiration

Inspired by Henri Matisse's La Musique painted in 1939, the Harmonie bottle uses pictorial features from the masterpiece. Its symbolic shape reflects the curves of the guitar in the painting.
The exercise of translating a painted work into a functional object allowed Marta to go from Matisse's flatness and absence of perspective to a three-dimensional object around which one can turn, that one can hold.

Marta Bakowski

Maison Matisse invited the young designer Marta Bakowski to create its first permanent collection inspired by the painting La Musique (1939). The Franco-Polish designer took the palette of colors and brilliantly reinterpreted the most representative themes of Henri Matisse's work, such as the philodendron leaf, the figure of the woman and music.
